Double IPA Deliciousness

Bear Republic always has a way of making brews that are surprisingly smooth and delicious considering how strong they are.  This is there Double IPA Apex.  Now there is a little confusion of just how strong this one is.  The website says it weighs in with an abv. of 7.1% but my growler said it was 8.1%.  I’m leaning towards the 8.1 just because they could have done something this year to make the beer stronger and not changed it on the website.  Bear Republic describes this beer as “what our brewers believe to be the apex of an IPA”.  It’s not far off if not spot on.  The flavor and nose come in with a lot of grapefruit, pineapple, maybe some mango, balanced out by a good amount of malt, and then at over 100+ IBU’s finishes with a nice pine.  Unfortunately in South Carolina you can only get kegs of this one.  Which if i had the means i would definitely do.  If you see it anywhere in your town and you like those big hoppy monsters try it.  You won’t be disappointed.
